I want a ticket to anywhere.
Maybe we can make a deal, maybe together we can get somewhere.
Anyplace is better (starting from zero got nothing to lose)
Maybe we'll make something, but me myself I got nothing to prove
-------------------------------------
You got a fast car, I got a plan to get us out of here
I been working at the convenience store, managed to save just a little bit of money
We won't have to drive too far, just 'cross the border and into the city
You and I can both get jobs, and finally see what it means to be living
----------------------------------------------
You got a fast car, but is it fast enough so we can fly away?
We gotta make a decision, leave tonight or live and die this way.
I remember when we were driving, driving in your car
Speed so fast I felt like I was drunk
City lights lay out before us, and your arm felt nice wrapped 'round my shoulder
And I had a feeling that I belonged
And I had a feeling I could be someone,
be someone,
be someone.

I thought of something the other night as I was driving home (I average about thirty or forty miles on the way home from work), that Tracy Chapman's Fast Car is never played on the radio during the daytime. With good reason. It's a night song (or at least, evening song). It's solemn and gentle, the perfect song to listen to on the long ride home.

Yeah, I can imagine that tune being perfect on a night drive, but I remember being really sick of it when it first got airplay.
Toon, I hope you're feeling better! Yeah, it sure was overplayed (not to the point of Billie Jean or anything, but initially it REALLY got on my nerves from sheer overkill)!
Now--I don't know--I just like it more than I used to (plus I had all these "car star" pictures saved and hearing the song gave me the idea)!
